Help eradicate invasive Lionfish during a two-tank dive with an experienced Lionfish hunter (and instructor). This trip includes an overview of the ecological damage caused by this species, an overview of best practices aimed at preventing environmental and personal harm during the hunt, provision of hunting gear, and two guided boat dives off shore among areas Lionfish are most often found.
Note: Open water scuba certification is required.
Why hunt lionfish?
To help maintain balance in Florida's marine ecosystems. From the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission:
"Lionfish are a predatory reef fish. They eat native fish, which can reduce native populations and have negative effects on the overall reef habitat and health as they can eliminate species that serve important ecological roles such as fish that keep algae in check on the reefs. Lionfish also compete for food with native predatory fish such as grouper and snapper."
Following a career in public safety I relocated to south Florida to pursue my passion for scuba diving and to share that passion with others by becoming a Divemaster and Open Water Scuba Instructor. I am a licensed instructor adhering to the standard...
Lionfish hunting is excellent throughout the Palm Coast. Trips are predominantly held on charter boats operating out of Jupiter, FL and Riviera Beach, FL.
